Hey news anchors: Understand how the economy works

We realize news anchors don’t always have the best vantage point of how regular people live. They travel first-class, have producers fawn over them. Heck, in Katie Couric’s case, we can’t even expect her to write her own essays.

So when Charlie Gibson assumed that two teachers who teach at New Hampshire’s Saint Anselm College would make approximately $200,000 per year, the audience started laughing. A lot.

The MSM is starting to finally hint that the economy is not doing so well, but this was not news to many Americans who have known this for some time. It has been difficult to get legitimate coverage of the economy, especially when most of the coverage is Bush saying, “Everything is fine.”

News anchors are somewhat entitled to make an above average paycheck. But in exchange for that paycheck, you still need a sense of priorities. Even if that is talking to your cleaning lady.

Perhaps it’s a generational thing. I don’t imagine that Rather, Brokaw, or Jennings would have made the same mistake.
